12 Days of Christmas: Shinola Runwell
Ah Christmas: the most wonderful time of the year. As we fill our stockings and break our overdrafts, watch afficionados the world over look for their next big fix. So, what better way to celebrate the Yuletide countdown than with a selection of our most finest and festive here on The Watch Gallery. Day 1: the Shinola Runwell.
The United States of America has shipped plenty to our shores: the Hollywood blockbuster (great), hot dogs (great), Donald Trump (not-so-great), but haute horlogerie? Well, there’s a first time for everything. Self-styled Detroit revivalists Shinola have reignited the flames of manufacturing once more with a focus on engineering. In a bid to bring new life back to decimated industries, their line of leathers, bicycles and (most importantly) watches give a nod to old school Americana whilst maintaining a level of utmost craftsmanship.
No more does this mantra ring truer than in the Shinola Runwell. Manufactured in Detroit, this stainless steel beauty offers an Argonite 5050 quartz movement that is painstakingly assembled from 103 components. Integrated EOL technology is complemented by a 6 o’clock date aperture with a stopwatch function, three sub-dials and double curved sapphire crystal glass. The coordinating green dial and bezel give a muted sense of vibrancy – and a welcome point of difference. Of course, the vintage-styled watch is hardly anything new yet Shinola breaks the mould through such subtle additions.
Granted, the Runwell is hardly the most classic of dress watches but it is ideal for an everyday option. Big, bold and brilliantly American, channel a stateside flex with this traditional piece.
