15 Minutes: Aishwarya Rai
The Watch Gallery caught up with Longines’ Ambassador of Elegance Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to discuss watches, busy schedules and how Longines was always the brand of choice.
How important is time to you and how do you manage it?
“There’s so much going on in my life, personally, professionally, I truly consider myself blessed. There’s just so much packed into every day that I really couldn’t have asked for more and these two and a half years since having my daughter has flown by – 24 hours is just too short and the next year ahead is going to be interesting for me to manage all of this and more.”
When did watches first become a part of your life?
“I’ve always worn a watch. My first was gifted to me by my father and I remember feeling very grown up. It spoke to me about responsibility and in a way, it probably was telling me that I was growing up and entering a new phase of life full of discoveries.”
“When Longines approached me I was very happy to accept this association because this for me was a natural synergy. Their motto is ‘elegance is an attitude’ and knowing the calibre of previous brand ambassadors, (Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart etc), their heritage spoke volumes to me.
The designs themselves are very modern and yet traditional – I’m today’s woman but I am very traditional at heart. It also reflects the heritage in watchmaking itself. When you know what’s gone into making the watch, you respect it and respect means a lot to me.”
What are the priorities for today’s ladies watches?
“Today when multi-tasking, women are doing so many different things. You have your sparkle and you have your dual tone and there can also be diamonds, but if you had to change your role through the day as one does, you don’t have time to question it. Longines watches just work with a multi-tasking personality.”
