SIHH x Audemars Piguet
It has been an incredibly busy SIHH for Audemars Piguet as the Le Brassus watchmaker unveiled a bevy of new watches this week.
The new Royal Oak Collection
A more compact take on the much-loved Royal Oak, the new iteration comes in a 38mm case, coming in under the largest 44mm piece and the most popular 41mm. The new set will be released in four versions, two in steel and two in rose gold, with different dial colour variations. The overall upgrade isn’t too drastic but does increase wear-ability for the everyday man.
The new in-house calibre 4302 movement has a 4 Hz instead of a 3 Hz and offers 70 hours of power reserve instead of 60. Just like the 38mm Chrono, the new collection is available in both steel and rose gold, where the steel version comes with a choice of blue, grey or black dial – the rose gold; black dial can also be purchased with a leather strap or gold bracelet.
Introduced to replaced the discontinued Jules Audermars line, the new Code 11.59 range reflects AP’s desire to create something genuinely new in the 21st century. The range will be available in 18ct white or pink gold and the most striking reference has to be the perpetual calendar with its starry dial and impressive complication. The new line of was in development for over half a decade and is made up of 13 references, the case design uses both hexagonal and round elements with a dial size of 42mm.
The dials on the Code 11.59 come in a range of shapes and sizes, from plain white and blue with date window to dials with grander complications including chronograph and flying tourbillons.
“So if we are to do something it has to be special. And we wanted to show people that we could really push all details a lot farther than anyone has done before. You look at it and it’s a ‘simple’ round watch, but then you look into the details and it’s not simply a round watch any more.” – CEO, François-Henry Bennahmias.
Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin
The third Royal Oak within the collection which incorporates a ceramic case, bracelet and bezel. The iconic grid-patterned dial is replaced with a new ripple-style “Tapisserie Evolutive” which expands from the tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position. Limited to just 100 pieces, this ceramic Royal Oak is bound to attract professional collectors.
