Steve McQueen’s iconic Rolex goes up for auction
It seems as if 2018 has been a year of legendary Rolex’s to hit auction, and while this isn’t the most expensive Rolex to hit the block, Steve McQueen’s 1964 Submariner 5513 is iconic. The watch was given from Steve to his close friend and favourite stuntman, Loren Janes in the 1970s; commemorated with an inscription on the back of the case that reads: “TO LOREN, THE BEST DAMN STUNTMAN IN THE WORLD. STEVE.” This engraving makes the watch completely one of its kind as Steve McQueen’s name has never featured on any other watch. The timepiece has been completed restored by Rolex after the watch was thought to have been destroyed by a freak fire in 2016.
It’s likely the watch will estimate reached $300,000 to $600,000 USD when it hits the auction block on October 25.
