The Best of Baume & Mercier

When it comes to broadening your horological horizons without burning a hole in the pocket, there’s only one choice of maison: Baume & Mercier.

Baume & Mercier are a unique brand through and through. Whilst those who are horologically green-eared opt for the big names with accessible price points (TAG Heuer, Longines, Tissot and so on and so forth), Baume & Mercier produce watches for watch lovers whilst still maintaining a level of affordability. You’ve got the kudos without three thousand quid, so to speak.

We champion unparalleled craftsmanship for all at The Watch Gallery (but you knew that already) and Baume & Mercier completely embody this mantra. Horologists have been known to sniff at sub-par timepieces but with a Classima Executives or Capeland on the wrist, you’ll only meet applause. We present to you the best of Baume & Mercier.

BAUME & MERCIER CLASSIMA EXECUTIVES, £2,100

The Classima Executives presents traditional design whilst still remaining style conscious – often a difficult feat for the Swiss manufactures. Equipped with a Swiss made automatic calibre, the dial is especially unique in that it boasts a sapphire crystal window to show part of the movement and painstakingly detailed guilloche decorations. Luminous hands allow night time legibility whilst additional features include a transparent pressure fitted case back, scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass and a monochrome aesthetic throughout.

BAUME & MERCIER CLIFTON, £2,050

As the slightly larger cousin of the Classima, the Clifton provides a more statement approach whilst keeping things traditional. A silver dial is set within a durable stainless steel case all finished on a luxury leather alligator strap. The Clifton is indeed a signature line of Baume & Mercier and as such, could run the risk of looking old fashioned: not quite the case here. Contrast gold Arabic numerals are punctuated with ice blue indices that all provide a contemporary touch without going too far – an ideal choice for the style-aware young professional.

BAUME & MERCIER CLASSIMA, £1,950

The Classima Silver is the pinnacle in haute horlogerie. With a distinctly classic design throughout, this informed choice can double up as a both boardroom-appropriate and dress watch fare – a rare exercise in flexibility when it comes to Swiss watch brands. A stainless steel case houses a brilliant white dial with contrasting gold indices, a date aperture at 3 o’clock and water resistance capability up to 50 metres. Spot on.

BAUME & MERCIER CLASSIMA AUTOMATIC, £1,750

One for the ladies, the Classima Automatic goes against the typical ‘delicately delectable’ blanket rule for women’s watches with a sizeable 36.55mm diameter and unisex stainless steel design. A triple folding safety clasp (again, another inclusion usually reserved for the fellas) is complemented by a date aperture at 3 o’clock, silver Roman numerals and a beautiful guilloche design to the dial. The metallic aesthetic frames said white dial and can pack a statement without relying on been-there-done-that diamond bezels and overtly feminine pastel colours. Indeed, this Classima paves the way for a more modern approach to ladies watches.
